PRESS RELEASE
February
2006
THE JERSEY BIRD AND POULTRY REGISTER
The outbreaks of Avian Influenza in Western Europe have lead to the States of Jersey increasing its level of readiness on the Island. The States of Jersey are setting up a central register so that they know where there are stocks of birds around the Island. This will help be of enormous benefit should the Island ever be faced with an outbreak of Avian Influenza.
People
are being asked to register every site where birds are kept.
The location of all collections of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese,
guinea fowl, partridges, pheasants, pigeons, quail, peacocks and swans must
be recorded and registered. If
keeping birds in a specialist building, in a field, in the garden or
on your pond, or even if owners will only be stocking the birds for part of
the year, they still must be registered.
It is not necessary to
register parrots, budgerigars or other aviary birds.
To register, please contact the Environment Department at
Howard Davies Farm (Tel: 866200) and they will provide a very simple form
to complete. Alternatively, the registration form can be obtained at www.gov.je/EnvPlan/.
