JSPCA PRESS RELEASE

August 2009

Two charged with importing puppies

Two boys, an 18 years old and a 13 years old, were arrested at Jersey Harbour after being stopped by Customs regarding the importation and transportation of puppies into the Island.

The States veterinary Surgeon, Linda Lowseck, was called to the Harbour on Monday 13th July 2009 after Border Collie puppies were found to be travelling in inappropriate conditions in the boot of a car.  She immediately impounded the puppies and they are presently being held and cared for at the JSPCA Animals' Shelter.  The boys left the Island without the dogs, but were arrested at the Harbour on Thursday 16th July 2009 when they returned to collect the dogs.

Patrick O'Ryan (18 years of age) will appear before the Magistrate on Friday 24th July 2009, charged with two offences under the Animal Welfare (Jersey) Law 2004.  The 13 year old boy was released form Police custody.
