NEW JSPCA ANIMALS' SHELTER AMBULANCE
The JSPCA Animals' Shelter is pleased to announce the arrival of a new much needed Animal Ambulance. The new Ambulance has been kindly funded by a grant the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter received from the Pet Plan Charitable Trust.
The JSPCA Animals' Shelter provides a 24 hour ambulance service whereby members of the public can always telephone for advice or assistance whenever required, 24 hours a day. Ambulance staff are always on call to rescue injured animals, collect strays and assist the public in any way and they are thoroughly trained in basic animal first aid, thus providing an invaluable service in ensuring that help is always available for any animal or bird in distress. Last year, the ambulance travelled 25,330 miles and carried out a total of 2975 journeys, rescuing injured animals or collecting stray domestic pets, of which 1192 of the journeys were undertaken by the emergency out of hours duty ambulance drivers.
On receipt of the new Animal Ambulance, the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter donated the ambulance replaced by the new vehicle to the Alderney Animal Welfare Society, a welfare group affiliated to the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter. The Alderney Animal Welfare Society was founded in 1953 to offer help to the unwanted animals on the Island of Alderney. Today it offers veterinary treatment, boarding facilities and general day to day care for animals and wildlife, along with advice to members of the public.
Many thanks to the Pet Plan
Charitable Trust for all their support, which is invaluable in helping to
ensure the continued good work of the JSPCA Animals’ Shelter.

Notes
for Editors:
The Alderney Animal Welfare Society was founded in 1953 by Miss Margaret Bunting. Miss Bunting was horrified at the way unwanted animals were being disposed of and decided that something had to be done to assist them. Funds were scarce and it was only through her hard work, persistence and an appeal via the Jersey Animals’ Shelter that she was able to purchase equipment to set up a charitable euthanasia service in Alderney. The facilities provided by the Alderney Animal Welfare Society have since been developed. The Society now offers veterinary treatment, boarding facilities and general day-to-day care for animals and advice to the public.
