JSPCA PRESS RELEASE

July 2006

EXOTIC VISITOR FOUND AMONGST BANANAS

A supermarket employee had a shock whilst unpacking a shipment of bananas from Costa Rica at the Grand Marche store in the evening of 11th July 2006, as hiding amongst the fruit, a small black scorpion was discovered.

The JSPCA duty driver was called to attend and brought the little foreign visitor back to the Animals’ Shelter to be looked after.

The staff from Jersey Zoo were asked to positively identify the species of the creature and the States of Jersey Environment and Planning Department have also been notified of the arrival of the foreign visitor so that the appropriate action can be taken.
